We blogged about the successful return of the bust of Thomas Lynn Bristowe MP to Brockwell Hall in June, achieved by this Society, with the Friends of Brockwell Park, and Lambeth Officers. We are now pondering a fresh challenge.
In 1897, Sir Ernest Tritton, Bristowe's successor as MP for Norwood, donated a 'Lttle Ben'- style clock tower to Brockwell Park, in celebration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. In this Diamond Jubilee year of Elizabeth II, we would like to restore this great symbol of Brockwell Park.
The clock-tower has been out of order for some years and is in poor condition, but the company that made it in 1897 is still in existence. It is not known how much it would cost to restore (we need to get a precise quote) but it is thought that about £15,000 needs to be raised. The restored clock and tower will complement the current Lottery-funded restoration of the Park.
Money is needed, naturally - but more important at this stage are volunteers to form an effective group to raise funds and manage this project. If you are interested in donating your time or your money, please contact us.
