The miracle of Dorothy Kerin

Do you believe in miracles? Today is the 50th anniversary of the death of Dorothy Kerin, who lived at 204 Milkwood Road from age 13.

Suffering from tubercular meningitis, she was at the point of death in 1912, her 23rd year, when she made a spontaneous recovery. This was dubbed 'The Miracle of Herne Hill', exciting great and continuing media interest.

A new Peabody development (34 flats) at 251-275 Milkwood Road is to be named Kerin House.

Lambeth Archives Open Day

Saturday 1 October is the date of this year's  Lambeth Archives Open Day.

Open Day is a free annual event which this year includes talks, films, workshops and an exhibition of original art and photographs around the theme 'Festival'.

Other attractions through the day include children's activities, local societies' stands and book stalls, and home-cooked refreshments.

Once again we'll have a stall and we look forward to meeting you. And if you've not yet got hold of a copy of A Short History of Herne Hill, this is a good time to purchase one (at only £3 )!

Lambeth Archives Open Day

Once again we'll have a stand at Lambeth Archives Open Day, which takes place at the Minet Library on Saturday 25 September.

This year's theme, 'Screen Lambeth', explores the local history of cinema going, film locations and home movies with a mixture of screenings, talks, practical workshops and advice - all free.

The Minet Library is at 52 Knatchbull Road, London SE5 9QY.
